Here at the Northern school of Shiatsu we offer several courses

Introductory days – these days long workshop are designed to give you a feel and a taste of what Shiatsu is, normally a day will run from 10am till 5pm and give you a little theory and a little bit of the history of Shiatsu, as well as plenty of practise learning a basic back routine and a Shiatsu facial….. Foundation Course –

This course provides a detailed introduction to Shiatsu for first time learners; no previous experience is necessary. By the end of this course you will be able to give friends and family simple and effective Shiatsu treatments.
You can complete the Foundation Course as a self contained course or as the first part of our One Year Certificate. Therapists who already hold a qualification in other treatment modalities may also find this course to be a valuable addition to their continuing professional development.
In this course you will learn:-
Core skills for giving shiatsu
Treatment routines for clients in prone, supine, side and sitting positions
The basic skills of observation and diagnosis using the principles of Traditional Oriental Medicine
Self care exercises
Relevant theory to support your practice

 

One Year Certificate –


The one year certificate builds on the skills and experience gained through our foundation course by providing a comprehensive introduction to the treatment of each of the classical Chinese meridians used in Traditional Oriental Medicine.
As with all our courses the emphasis is on practical skills and teaching theory through hands on experience. In this course you will learn
The theory of “Five Elements”
How to treat each of the twelve classical meridians
The location and use of important points on each meridian
Observation, diagnosis and how to tailor your treatments to specific client needs
A range of self care exercises and client care recommendations
Relevant theory to support your practice
This course is the first stage of study for a diploma in Shiatsu following the curriculum set out by the Shiatsu Society UK.
One Year Certificate Course Curriculum

Advanced Level (Year Two Certificate)


Each weekend will include review of the Five Element theory in relation to the elements.
There will also be time for practice treatments on each other.
A range of self development exercises will be covered each weekend. These will include Makko-ho stretches, Do-In exercises, breathing and meditation exercises plus any exercises individual teachers may include.
Course Curriculum
Duration: The Year Two Certificate comprises 22 days over eleven weekends (one weekend per month) Please note that you will need to complete the One Year certificate first

Diploma Level (Year 3)


Each weekend will include review of the Five Element theory in relation to the elements.
There will also be time for practice treatments on each other.
A range of self development exercises will be covered each weekend. These will include Makko-ho stretches, Do-In exercises, breathing and meditation exercises plus any exercises individual teachers may include.
Course Curriculum
Duration: 22 days over eleven weekends (one weekend per month) Please note that you must complete the Advanced Level (Year Two Certificate) before you commence this course.
